CANADA: 12th Annual Native Business Awards handed out in northern Ontario

Seven Native entrepreneurs in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) territory in northern Ontario were recognized recently in a yearly award ceremony. The awards, hosted by the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund, spotlight Native businesspersons from all of NAN territory, which covers about two-thirds of northern Ontario and has about 34,000 residents from 51 First Nation communities. Among the recipients were Lorelei Martin, owner of a one-year-old road maintenance company; Patricia Faries, an independent barrister and solicitor; and Ed Wesley, marketing director for Wolf Tracks, a clothing company featuring Aboriginal apparel.
