The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions (ICEM) have called on Canadian-based Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. to end its mining joint venture with the Burmese military regime because of widespread human rights abuses by the military regime, which is engaged in a civil war with various ethnic states. Ivanhoe's Monywa Copper Mine has been linked to forced labor and environmental degradation.
