BURMA: Burmese military accused of condoning rape, sexual assault

“License to Rape,” a report released last month by the Shan Human Rights Foundation (SHRF) and the Shan Women’s Action Network (SWAN), alleges that Burmese troops are using rape and sexual assault as an officially condoned “weapon of war.” The report, which is based on accounts given by victims and their families, details more than 600 cases of rape and sexual assault committed in the Shan State within the last six years.
