Fed up with discrimination and the sub-par education provided to them, a group of 29 Romany children from the poor Fakulteta neighborhood of the city of Sofia will be filing a lawsuit against the Education Ministry and the city government. The group’s lawyer charges that the agencies put Romany children in segregated schools where they receive an inadequate education, and subsequently face many obstacles to full social integration in Bulgaria. The group is prepared to take their case to the European Court of Human Rights if Bulgarian courts do not address the problems.
