BRAZIL: Xucuru Indians call for justice

A group of 2,000 Xucuru Indians have re-occupied six separate territories located in the Pesqueira Indian-reserved lands in the State of Pernanbuco. The purpose of this action is to assert their rights to ancestral lands and to seek justice for their leader, Francisco de Assis Araujo, assassinated two years ago by the current inhabitants. In the process, the Xucuru have released 1,000 cattle to roam free in the area.
