A recent judicial decision has formally established the rights of indigenous inhabitants from Gavia da Montaha to their ancestral land, lost after the construction of the Tucuri hydroelectric dam. While the land in question is covered by water, the judgment reserves a replacement area of land with the same dimensions, and establishes a level of compensation for the incurred damages.
