BRAZIL: Curuaia Indians free 21 hostages, in deal to stop mining

Curuaia Indians from the villages of Cajueiro in Altamira released 21 hostages that had been held for a week. The hostages were accused of transporting food, drugs, fuel, and weapons to 350 miners in Madalena, within an indigenous reserve. An agreement was made between the Federal Police and the National Indian Foundation to establish a 90 day deadline for the removal of miners in the reserve, if the Indians promise not to take anymore hostages.
