BRAZIL: Conservation corridors sought in Mato Grosso

In an effort to limit further expansion of the soya frontier, to protect land, and to support biodiversity, the international community is beginning a campaign for the creation of an environmental corridor in Mato Grosso. The corridor is designed to run along the Cuiaba-Santarem highway, covering valuable regions of transitional forest. The creation of corridors is the current strategy being used to protect biodiversity in Brazil. Conservation International has guaranteed the preservation of an area of 200,000 hectares.
