BOLIVIA: Aymara Protest Government’s Plans to Export Natural Gas

Protesters from the Aymara indigenous group shut down roads leading out of La Paz this week in response to Bolivian Government plans to export natural gas to Mexico and the U.S. The protesters are demanding that before any natural gas leaves the country it should be supplied for free to 250,000 homes in Bolivia. Indigenous opposition leader Evo Morales has threatened to call mass strikes if president Gonzalo Snachez de Lozado does not meet their demands.
