High school students from three districts of Belize recently completed the first intercultural exchange program in the Toledo district initiated by the Belize Youth Movement. The program placed the students with Maya families in rural villages in the southern district to learn more about indigenous culture in exchange for instruction in reading and writing and small gifts such as sporting goods and school supplies.
