AUSTRALIA: Yorta Yorta Aborigines turn to the UN to settle native title claim

The Indigenous Yorta Yorta people of southern Australia are planning to approach the United Nations concerning their native title claim, which was dismissed by Australia’s High Court in 2002. The Yorta Yorta are disappointed with Australia’s judicial system and its dismissal of their native title claim, and hope that the UN and the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations will be able to assist in pressing their case.
