The New South Wales government has rejected ATSIC’s request for a parliamentary inquiry into decades of governmental negligence on payment of welfare money and lost wages to Aborigines. ATSIC commissioner Rick Griffiths feels that the Community Services Minister should re-examine a 2001 Cabinet report that was withdrawn because it allegedly “needed more work.”
