AUSTRALIA: “Kakadu Man” dies, leaves legacy of inspiration

Bill Neidjie, an outstanding figure in the reconciliation process, known as the “Kakadu Man” or “Big Bill” died peacefully on May 23, 2002. Neidjie was best known for his role in the establishment of Kakadu National Park in 1979 and in achieving victory in land claims for his people, the Bunidj. He has been described as “the spirit of reconciliation.”
