AUSTRALIA: Indigenous group face possible legal action from Museum of Victoria

The Dja Dja Wurrung from Northwest Victoria could be facing legal action as a result of their protests to keep three indigenous artifacts on loan from Britain within the Museum of Victoria. The artifacts, two bark etchings and one headdress from the Mallee region of Northwest Australia, were to be returned to Britian by September 30. The Dja Dja Wurrung protested against the return of the objects by obtaining an emergency declaration in July to keep the objects in Australia. The Museum of Victoria issued a press release to confirm the start of the court proceedings on the 30th. The museum was not available for further comment.
