The Artic's summer ice may be completely melted as early as 2040, a recent report from the University of Arizona said, likely forcing significant lifestyle changes among indigenous Artic peoples. The melting ice is creating higher sea levels and shorter feeding seasons for many Artic animals, according to the report, which could drastically affect the cultures of many peoples indigenous to the Arctic.
Already, rising sea levels have forced some villages to relocate, reported Climate.org. Shorter feeding seasons are expected to push polar bear and seal populations towards extinction, which would impact hunting traditions, according to the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment.
