ALGERIA: Paramilitary forces withdrawing from Berber region

Another of the 15 Berber demands presented to the Algerian government is being met this week, as the unpopular paramilitary troops begin to pull out of Kabyle. The presence of paramilitary units in the Berber region have been the source of contention for over a year now, as they are accused by of inflicting continuous civil and human rights abuses against local populations. The troops will be replaced by local police units.
