MEXICO: Indigenous Oaxacans seek conflict resolution

Hundreds of indigenous people from six municipalities in the state of Oaxaca blockaded a major highway on April 7 for over six hours in an attempt to obtain an agreement with state representatives to resolve the many conflicts plaguing the region. Among the issues they addressed were the corruption of government officials and a nine-year agrarian conflict during which 400,000 hectares of agricultural land was given to large landowners by the Superior Agrarian Tribunal.
