THAILAND: Government bans farming for Akha people

The Thai government has issued a ban on Akha farming in Hooh Yoh Akha, a village of Ampur Mae Faluang in the Chiangrai Province. Forestry personnel and the police are demanding 147,000 baht ($3,700) per household to allow farming to continue. A campaign against the ban has been launched by the Akha Heritage Foundation.
