PERU: Inter-American Development Bank approves $135m for controversial gas project

On Wednesday, September 10, the IADB approved a $135 million loan for transporting gas in a project that could harm Peru’s Amazon rainforest and native communities. The IADB believes that the project will bring major economic development to the nation, and simultaneously reduce air pollution. However, environmentalists and advocates of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon strongly object to the project as it puts natives at risk.
