PERU: Victory in the fight against the Camisea Pipeline Project

Due to opposition from indigenous and environmental groups, the board of directors of the US Export-Import Bank has denied the Hunt and PlusPetrol oil companies a loan of $213 million for the completion the Camisea Pipeline. Pipeline opponents suggest that while it will benefit the Peruvian economy, this will come at a devastating cost to indigenous populations in the Nahua-Kugapakori. The Inter-American Development Bank will soon vote on whether it will fund the project.
