WORLD: World Bank Creates Global Fund for Indigenous Peoples

In its continuing effort to appear progressive, the World Bank has created a Global Fund to grant money to indigenous organizations. The Bank insists that indigenous peoples will be included in the mechanisms of the fund, and contains a provision granting increased funding for the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Though the World Bank has many such programs and provisions for indigenous peoples, the Bank is still seen by many as a destructive organization that is more apt to co-opt indigenous peoples than to help them.
