UNITED STATES: Tribe’s Lake Tahoe land bid passed by House and Senate

On Monday, July 21, the U.S. Senate passed a bill giving 24 acres of U.S. Forest Service land on the shore of Lake Tahoe back to its original inhabitants, the Washoe Indian Tribe. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives the week before and is now awaiting President Bush’s final approval.
