In response to last weekend’s murders, security has been strengthened in Effurun where the headquarters of the Uvwie Local Council is located. Police have begun a search for those responsible for five killings believed to be politically motivated. The violence started Saturday when Chief Agbofodo, the Unvevworo of Uvwie kingdom, had his house invaded, reportedly during a meeting he was holding with his fellow chiefs. During the encounter gunfire was exchanged between the attackers and some local armed youth who are loyal to the traditional council of chiefs.
