The Indonesian military rejects claims by human rights groups that it has tortured Papuans in its custody. The BBC reports that on April 15 three men in were arrested for stealing military equipment in Wamena, Papua. According to the local human rights group, one of the men was tied to two ropes and dragged through the streets of his home village of Ilekma. He died later that day. Military officials deny the claims, saying that the man died of “breathing problemsâ€.
