During the National Indian Gaming Association’s 12th annual Membership Meeting and Trade Show in Phoenix, Anthony Pico, chairman of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians told 2,500 people that the sovereignty of Indian nations is at risk. He and other leaders said that political opposition is constantly attacking Indian gambling, which, he argued, is good for Native Americans across the country. The group called on tribal leaders to “stick together” and continue to lobby Congress for their rights.
