NEW ZEALAND: Maori protest land sale to U.S. businessman

A group of Maori protestors has occupied Young Nick’s Head in protest of a proposed sale of land to a U.S. businessman. The area, which is home to the site of a 600-year old Maori settlement and is currently owned by a New Zealander living in Australia, should not be sold to a foreigner, according to Tutekawa Wyllie, a spokesman for the Maori protesters. The sale must win Government approval in order to be completed, and the protestors say they will remain at the site until after the July 27th elections.
