The Tasmanian government has turned down requests by representatives of the National Sorry Day Committee to give Tasmanian Aboriginal names to the new Bass Strait fast ferries, which will be called Spirit of Tasmania I and II. Steve Kons, parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, replied that a name change would undo the effects of marketing that has already been carried out.
