About 130 Eravalar and Malasar protestors outside a Coca-Cola plant in Kerala, India were arrested on June 9. The Eravalar and Malasar communities are Adivasi, officially classified as Scheduled Tribes by the Indian government. The Plachimada Plant has been surreptitiously dumping chemical sludge in the fields of nearby communities, rendering groundwater useless for drinking, bathing and washing in surrounding Adivasi and Dalit communities. Protestors have been picketing and fasting outside the plant since April 22, 2002.
