Over 500 inhabitants of the Peten region are protesting a proposed dam system along three major rivers affecting 60 indigenous and peasant communities. The project, funded by international investment affiliated with the Plan Puebla Panama and Free Trade Agreements, would displace 15,000 people, mostly Qeqchi Maya.
