EAST AFRICA: Researchers call for respect of traditional beliefs

In researching the causes of increased bushmeat concumption in East Africa, two scientists of the African Highlands Initiative focus the blame on Christian churches that have undermined traditional African practices and values. Prior to the Christianization of local populations in the southwestern Ugandan highlands, for example, many Kigezi clans strictly prohibited the consumption of wild animals due to totem worship.
