After 159 consecutive days inside the offices of the National Organization of
Indigenous Colombians (ONIC), the Embera Katío signed an agreement with
the Colombian government on April 8 and then celebrated the victory in the streets
of Bogotá. The agreement created a special commission to evaluate the
effects caused by the construction of the Urrá dam and to determine the
appropriate compensation and reparation. The agreement also said that plans for
a second hydroelectric dam on the Sinú River would not be approved.
