On February 27th, the Assembly of First Nations’ National Chief Matthew Coon Come will be in Grassy Narrows First Nation of Ontario to show support for a road blockade set up by the community. The indigenous people of Grassy Narrows created a blockade and information center on an Abitibi access road leading into their traditional territories, claiming they were never consulted about the license granted to Abitibi Consolidated for clear cutting activities on their land. The clear cutting is an apparent infringement on Aboriginal and Treaty rights recognized by the Canadian Constitution.
