CANADA: Native Shelter in danger

Residents of St. John’s neighborhood are opposed to the opening of a shelter in that area. The St. John’s Native Friendship Center Association wants to open the shelter on the west end of Water Street. Even though the Shelter will host aboriginal people coming for medical appointments, the residents of St. John’s have raised their voice in opposition as they say that there is already a shelter for men, the Wiseman Center, in the neighborhood. The St. John’s Native Friendship Center provides a wide range of social services to Mi’kmaq, Innu, Metis and other aboriginal peoples.
