BRAZIL: Indigenous communities threatened by fire

A fire started in the Barcelos region of Brazil has destroyed 3,000 square kilometers of Amazon forest and is threatening several indigenous communities. For a week the fire has been traveling close to the village of Santa Rita, where 100 families live. The fire was detected by the new Sivam state-of-the-art radar system, and firefighters have been using military helicopters and planes to try to put it out.
