BOTSWANA: Resettled San man dies in relocation camp

Mogetse Kaboikanyo, a Kgalagadi man who was resettled by the Botswana government along with Gana and Gui San in February 2002, died this past month. He was one of many aboriginal people forcibly evicted from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and placed in grim resettlement camps on its border. Before being resettled he spoke with representatives of Survival International, giving a powerful assertion of his own right to dwell in the Reserve and a sharp denouncement of the government’s actions. His words can be read on Survival International’s website.
