AUSTRALIA: Aborigines rally over compensation offer

About 100 people rallied in Brisbane on July 3, protesting a compensation offer proposed by the Queensland Government to address the issue of withheld wages and savings. The rally’s organizers stated that the government’s offer of almost $56 million was far too low and that the three-month time limit imposed on the decision-making process does not allow for proper community consultation. They are calling for an extension of the August 9 deadline to consider the offer.
