Summer Bazaar Artist Liaison

Role: The Summer Bazaar Artist Liaison is a temporary job opportunity in July 2018 to coordinate the approximately 10-15 Indigenous artists participating in Cultural Survival's Indigenous Artisan Institute and to provide support to Cultural Survival staff during the two summer Bazaars. The person in this role will be the primary liaison with the artists and will be in regular communication with Bazaar staff. The role requires a significant input of physical and emotional energy for a short (10-day) time frame, with a few hours before and after for training and follow-up.

Logistics: 
July 20-29, approximately 10 hours/day, plus sleeping on site. A few hours of paid training will be required in advance at flexible times, and a few hours of follow-up will be required immediately afterward (can be remote).
Food costs, transportation, and lodging will be covered. Lodging will be with host families in shared, multi-gender spaces with Bazaar staff and artists.
Compensation: $16/hour
Worker's comp coverage provided.


Responsibilities:
During the Artisan Institute (July 23-27)
-Hosting international Indigenous artists, including airport/bus station pickup/drop-off, ensuring they have what they need, driving them on occasional errands, food shopping, etc. Vehicle will be provided.
-Providing occasional spoken interpretation among artists and/or trainers who do not speak the same language (if possible based on language fluency)
-Sleeping in the artists' lodging with artists and CS staff July 20-28
-Maintaining cleanliness in the artists' lodgings, including ensuring that everyone cleans up after themselves and abides by house rules
-Driving artists to different events and workshops throughout the week in southeastern MA
-Regular and clear communication with Bazaar staff about any issues, concerns, or needs relating to artist relations
-Logistical coordination with workshop facilitators and hosts
-Access to cell phone during work hours; being accessible to Bazaar staff via phone
-Being a friendly, energetic, and welcoming face of Cultural Survival to our artist guests
-Publishing regular social media content

During the Bazaars (July 21-22 and July 28-29)
May include:
-Assisting Bazaar staff with setup, breakdown, and other tasks as needed
-Flyering during the Bazaars
-Sleeping at Tiverton Four Corners Arts Center July 27-29 (camping or indoors in a shared space)
-Maintaining cleanliness in the shared indoor sleeping space at Tiverton Four Corners Arts Center
-Booth-sitting (running vendor booths while they are on break)
-Running Cultural Survival's booth - providing professional representation of Cultural Survival and our programs to the public
-Directing cars in parking lot at Tiverton
-Coordinating volunteers
-Other support as needed to help the event run smoothly
-Publishing regular social media content

Additional requirements:
-Must be available for a 1-2 hour paid training session, preferably in person in Cambridge, 1-2 weeks prior to the Institute
-Must have valid US driver’s license and be capable of driving a 12-person passenger van.
-Must provide proof of current health insurance
-Must be capable of lifting 20 lbs to carry materials to and from activities
-Must be able to spend much of the day moving around (to and from car, rental houses, different workshops, and moving around the Bazaar festival space)
-Must be comfortable being outdoors during Bazaars and prepared for variations in weather (extreme heat, rain, other possible July weather in Boston)
-Must be capable of long hours supervising and providing hospitality to artists and trainers
-The rental house may have stairs
-English language fluency required
-Spanish or French language fluency strongly preferred
