Clashes between Algerian security forces and Berber youth erupted during a protest in Algeria ’s northeastern Kabyle region. Berbers were protesting the authorities’ refusal to punish gendarmes allegedly responsible for killing 107 Berbers last spring, when they shot live ammunition into rioting crowds.
