INDIA: Forest officials destroy tribal village in Betul

On July 17, forest officials from the Betul district accused the Korku Tribe of Bhandarpuri village of encroaching on forest reserve land, threatening the villagers, and allegedly proceeding to loot the village. Villagers have filed a case with the Kotwali police station claiming that the officials physically attacked the villagers, looted and burnt down their homes. The villagers are in urgent need of relief, being left without food and shelter.
