ETHIOPIA: Drought ignites conflict over resources

Recent conflict between pastoralist communities in the eastern Ethiopian states of Afar and Somali has been attributed to resource competition due to a long spell of drought in the region. As access to pastureland and water sources diminish, Somali have accused Issa tribes from Djibouti of impinging on their lands. Last month these conflicts resulted in a fuel shortage in the capital as truck drivers caught in the crossfire refused to continue on their regular routes.
