Dar mayor visibilidad a las voces indígenas en el 25º período de sesiones del Foro Permanente de las Naciones Unidas para las Cuestiones Indígenas

Del 20 de abril al 1 de mayo de 2026, tuvo lugar la 25ª sesión del Foro Permanente de las Naciones Unidas para las Cuestiones Indígenas de (UNPFII). El tema de la sesión de este año se centró en “Garantizar la salud de los Pueblos Indígenas, incluso en contextos de conflicto.” Más de 1,000 delegados asistieron a pesar de los recortes de financiación y los desafíos de visado y viaje en el clima político actual, lo que generó preocupación por la falta de implementación de la Declaración.

Cultural Survival estuvo presente, trabajando para amplificar las voces y las soluciones lideradas por los propios Pueblos Indígenas. Nos asociamos con el UNPFII y UNDESA para gestionar la Zona de Medios Indígenas, organizamos y coorganizamos varios eventos paralelos y discusiones, y apoyamos a nuestros becarios y socios beneficiarios en sus esfuerzos de incidencia mediante la organización de eventos y reuniones con varias misiones gubernamentales y expertos clave. ¡Gracias a todas las personas que se cruzaron con nosotros y colaboraron con nuestro trabajo!

at the 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Cultural Survival releases an advocacy brief, “Defending the Land, Paying with Life”, that analyzes the structural violence behind these murders in the context of international human rights legal frameworks and launches recommendations towards the parties responsible for protecting defenders and implementing Indigenous rights, including companies, States, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Presidency of COP Escazu’s governing board, and the international community.
