Bertha Oliva of COFADEH nominated for Nobel Prize

Congratulations to Bertha Oliva, a Honduran activist, on her nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize!  Bertha, and her organization COFADEH, have been active partners in the Global Response campaign Honduras:Protect Forests and Environmental Activists.

TEGUCIGALPA- Six Honduran women were selected Wednesday by the project Thousand  
Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005, sources with the 
initiative. 

The chosen are Bertha Oliva, coordinator of the Committee of Relatives of 
Deretenidos Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH) Istmania Pineda, President 
non-governmental organization Xibalba, that rescues children from the 
youth gangs, and the writer Leticia Oyuela. 

Completing the list are Miralda and Mary Queen Esther Ruiz, who work in 
women's organization projects in Olancho (east) and Copán (northwest) and 
Albertina Garcia, who works in care of ethnic indigenous Lenca. 

The women were selected by a jury of four references 
nominated by the Norwegian Nobel Committee that the next will be October 4 
to know who will receive the award on behalf of the Arabian women. 

"The 1000 women are experts in their field of work, are emblematic of 
hope for their own people, and are constantly informed 
fighters and unconventional," notes a statement Thousand Women Project 
for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005. 

Add to the biographies of the 1000 women selected will be edited in a 
book as a reference guide for NGOs 
aid organizations, networks for peace, women's groups and 
institutions.
