AUSTRALIA: ATSIC and Bushlight power northern communities

On Monday, June 23, a Regional Energy Plan for small Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander homes in the northern region of Australia was put into place. The plan was instigated by the local ATSIC Nulla Wimila Regional Council and Bushlight, a combined undertaking of the Centre for Appropriate Technology (CAT) and the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE). The aim of the program is to bring renewable and dependable power to remote regions. In order to achieve this goal and encourage long term sustainability, Bushlight is equipping the community members with the knowledge and skills to operate and maintain the technology themselves.
