Languages spoken by indigenous groups in Matabeleland will soon be mandatory in the curriculum of local primary schools. The government issued the new language program in response to demands made by a group of organizations collectively called the Zimbabwe Indigenous Languages Promotion Association, who maintain indigenous communities marginalized by the dominant society should be supported in their right to practice their mother tongues. The languages included in the program are Sotho, Tonga, Venda, Kalanga and Nambya.
