WORLD: South American Indigenous and Peasant-Farmers to hold summit

Social and political leaders from the Americas, including Evo Morales of Bolivia’s Sin Tierra Movement, and Blanca Chancoso from Ecuador’s CONAIE, have announced a new summit of Indigenous and Peasant Farmers to be held in Venezuela, October 11-14. Attendees will discuss methods of resistance to FTAA and IMF policies. According to planners the meeting is a call to indigenous peoples from around the world to organize and address the right to land and justice 511 years after Columbus’s “discovery of the new world”.
