WORLD: ICMM recognizes World Heritage sites

The International Council on minding and Metals (ICMM) signed an undertaking last week not to explore or mine in World Heritage Sites. The ICMM comprises 15 of the largest mining and metal producing companies in the world, including Alcoa, Anglo American, and Mitsubishi Materials. By recognizing the existing World Heritage properties as no-go areas, the corporations hope to earn the trust of other interest groups and contribute to sustainable development.
