A new fund has been created with an aim to strengthen the work of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, channel additional funds towards indigenous development agencies, and bring indigenous voices into decision-making bodies that affect them. The announcement of the World Bank’s Global Fund for Indigenous Peoples was timed to coincide with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. With the recent approval of a Board of Directors, the World Bank says it will begin operations shortly.
