WORLD: Five UN fellowships opened to ethnic minorities

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) will accept applications for five fellowship positions until November 15. Based in Geneva, Switzerland from early February to late April 2006, the Minorities Fellowship allows recipients to better understand the Sub-Commission's Working Group on Minorities, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the Commission on Human Rights. The program's goal is to offer participants knowledge and skills in order to aid their own comunities in issues related to human rights.

Upon acceptance, fellows will receive plane tickets from their home country to Geneva, health insurance throughout the program dates, and a monthly living stipend. Individuals may apply, as well as selected representatives from minority organizations. Educational background will not be a factor; however applicants must speak English.
