WORLD: Call for paper submissions on sacred sites and the environment

"Sacred Sites and the Environment from an Indigenous Perspective" will be the featured topic of a side event of the upcoming fifth session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. The event, which is organized by Peruvian NGO Yachay Wasi, is tentatively scheduled for May 19. Those interested in participating are invited to submit a brief (1-2 page) outline of a case involving a site that is sacred to their indigenous community or people, and which needs more attention or is currently the subject of legal litigation. Submissions should include full contact information. Copies of the papers received will be included in a final report that will be presented to the members of the Permanent Forum and relevant UN agencies.

Submissions should be emailed to Marie-Danielle Samuel: yachaywasi@nyc.rr.com or Anne-Marie Gribnau: annemariegribnau@hotmail.com. The deadline for submissions is April 21, 2006.
