UNITED STATES: Tribal history program prepares to open with $1 million grant

The American Indian Tribal Histories Project is set to open next month at the Western Heritage Center in Montana thanks to a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Interior. Northern Cheyenne Tribe member Francine Bear Don’t Walk will head the program to train tribal college students and graduates to research and preserve the local native histories and cultures. Bear Don’t Walk plans on using the information they gather to produce publications and teaching aids for students throughout the country.
